How do I care for my jewellery?

I will always offer advice when I ship each piece for how to best care for your jewellery, but for most pieces, just cleaning with dish soap, baking soda and a toothbrush keeps it looking nice and sparkly.

I would also recommend removing pieces when gardening, doing heavy industrial work and lifting weights.

If a piece of jewellery you have ordered from me needs repairing, I am happy to do so. I do not, however, offer repairs on jewellery I have not made at this time.

Shipping

Orders are processed & shipped out within 7-10 days, with Overnight or Xpress shipping.

For orders retailing above $500.00 CAD, items will be sent using FEDEX overnight express. Shipping is always fully insured and will require a direct signature. Tracking numbers will be provided. Shipping charges start at $50.00 within Canada and $80.00 to the US and Internationally.

The total shipping costs may exceed the starting prices based on location and value of the jewellery items shipped.
I will always confirm a quote before shipping.

If you are ordering smaller items retailing for less than $500.00, I will ship them using Canada post, 2-3 days with tracking and signature. Shipping rates will start at $25.00

For countries outside of North America, please contact me for shipping rates.

Customs

All packages travelling across borders will be subject to import taxes and duties and are the responsibility of the purchaser.

Appraisals

Appraisals on jewellery priced above $1000.00 are always complementary.

Sizing

The first ring sizing is always complimentary. If you do not know your finger size and are not able to visit me in person, I would recommend either going to a jewellery store to have your fingers sized, or purchasing a ring sizer online. If you purchase a ring sizer and would like some help determining the exact right size, I can definitely offer my guidance- please just reach out.

Returns and Exchanges

If you receive your jewellery and are unhappy with it, you have 10 business days to return it. If you have had the piece shipped to you, I ask that you pay the return shipping and cover and additional taxes and duties I may be charged coming back through the border. I understand that these are big purchases and I want you to love your Erin Hakin Jewellery as much as I do. To give you full confidence with your purchase, I am happy to send videos and additional pictures before I ship.

If I have made you a custom piece or have altered the piece before sending it out such as sizing the ring, the sale is considered final.

Custom Design

How does the custom design process work?

If you have a dream design swirling in your head, and you like my overall aesthetic or even if you’ve fallen in love with a design of mine that has sold or needs alterations (like a bigger stone, etc..) custom design could be a good choice for you.

After an introductory meeting (either by phone, zoom or in person) where we discuss the project in mind, the next step generally is finding a stone. After I present you with my findings and you make your selection, the next step would be designing that stone into a piece of jewellery. Depending on the intricacies of the desired piece, I would first present you with drawings, and then either have it designed in CAD or carve it by hand in wax myself.

Once there is a wax or CAD image, I would ask for your approval to go ahead with casting in the metal of your choice. After casting, I clean and polish the piece, have the stones and do any finishing work required such as engraving. Once the piece is finished, I have it evaluated by appraisal.

What are the costs to have a piece custom made?

I would say that custom projects generally start at $1500.00. The initial meeting to discuss the project is free, and the stone consultations start at $300.00 which is non refundable, BUT will be applied to the final cost of the ring. Meaning, it won’t be an additional $300.00 on top of the cost of the ring if you decide to go ahead with the project.

Once you have chosen a stone or design, I will calculate the cost of the project and ask for a deposit for 50% of the total cost not including shipping and taxes if they apply. The balance can be paid upon completion

How long does custom jewellery take?

Custom projects generally take 6-8 weeks. Things can take longer if you’re asking me to source a unicorn stone- but I’ll let you know all about that in our initial meeting.

Ok...what is a unicorn stone?

Because I love to use salt and pepper diamonds (each one has its own special characteristics) and unique unheated Sapphire finds in my ready made jewellery, sometimes it's extremely difficult to find another one of those rare unicorn stones. I spend hours sourcing what I feel are the most special stones for my work and they are not always easy to find. If you see a stone in my ready made work that you are drawing inspiration from for a custom design, please understand that I will try my best to find you a replica, but it can’t always guarantee that it will be the same. But please trust, I’ve got a sharp eye, and will find you your own unicorn.

Will you copy another artist’s ring I’ve seen online?

In short, no I will not. I understand that people look online for inspiration and I’m totally ok with looking at those inspiration pics and drawing from them, but I would like to keep my work true to my own design esthetic and respect that artist that created their own unique piece.

Can I return my custom piece?

All sales of custom jewellery are final.
